Graz take part in the Plymouth-Banjul
Challange 2007, first run in 2003 and then known as the
Plymouth-Dakar Challenge.
The aim of the challenge is to drive a car,
costing no more than € 150 from Great Britain to The Gambia, where the
car is auctioned for, or donated to, charity. To save some time and
petrol we are able to start from Vienna (Austria) and join the rest of
the teams somewhere in France or Spain. The whole trip takes about
7950km to complete.

Endlich! Linz hat seit dem Hillinger (R.I.P) wieder ein Stadtmagazin!
spotsZ - Kunst.Kultur.Szene.Linz heißt das seit Oktober 2006 monatlich erscheinende Print- & "Download"magazin mit Schwerpunkten Termine Linzkultur (von E zu U), Kulturszene, Kunstdiskurs und Stadtleben.
Meine Lieblingskolumne ist der Fruchtgenuss - Der attraktiviste Leerstand des Monats. Das Bildarchiv dokumentiert die attraktivisten, leerstehenden Gebäude im Raum Linz auf einem Blick.
Die Rubrik Ausschreibungen verschlinge ich mit besonderer
Freude, den lin.C Cartoon sowieso und in der aktuellen Ausgabe "Burnout-Biennale"
von Harald Schmutzhard, der in seinem Artikel der Frage nachgeht, warum
so viele KulturarbeiterInnen so schnell ausbrennen.
Nun ja, lieber
Harald, wir sind halt immer noch vom frühen Bürgertum geprägt, das, der
Romantik verhaftet, den Künstler (auch den Kulturarbeiter) als nicht
endend wollende Kunstproduktionsmaschine sieht, die sowieso nichts
anderes tun kann, als Kunst zu produzieren. Deshalb braucht man auch
kaum Mittel zuführen, es passiert sowieso. Ich plädiere für einen
Aktivstreik. Die Freie Szene kehrt im September 200x Linz den Rücken und
organisiert / bespielt zB. ein Festival in Rumänien. Vielleicht schafft
die Freie Szene dann über Hubert von Goisern den Re-Import nach Linz.
Anyhow: spotsZ ist eine bereicherung für Linz - download hier!

Gestern wurde im Cdb in Linz die Ausstellung von Hubert Sommerauer eröffnet. Johanna Lacroix (Texte) und Wolfgang Fadi Dorninger (Musik) performierten bei der Ausstellungseröffnung. Dr. Assmann (Eröffnungsrede).
Die Ausstellung ist bis zum 12.12.2006 von MO-FR 15:00 - 19:00 geöffnet.

MS - Vista?
Als Benutzer beider Welten kenne ich ganz genau die Pro und Cons von Linux und Microsoft. Im Büro (online) benutze ich Ubuntu-Linux. Im Tonstudio Windows (offline. Wieso? Weil meine Lieblingssoundkarte der Firma Creamware Scope project (früher Pulsar II) nur unter Windows optimal läuft.
Als Leser des Linux User
Magazins erhält man nicht nur die neuesten Informationen und Tips aus
der Linux-Welt, nein, man erfährt auch Neues aus der Windows-Welt.
Im
Editorial "Ich spiele nicht mehr mit" eröffnet uns Jörg
Luther (Chefredakteur Linux User) - und auch Nutzer beider Welten
(er liebt den MS Flight Simulator) - Details der EULA (End User Licence
Agreement) zu Windows Vista.
Alle, die bereits gierig auf die Kaufversion von Vista warten, atmet
lieber fünf mal ruhig durch, damit ihr nicht vor lauter Lachen oder
Ärger platzt.
Ich zitiere aus dem Editorial: "Schon bisher
fand ich es recht eigenartig, ein Betriebssystem jedesmal "reaktivieren"
zu müssen, wenn ich ein Stück Hardware am Rechner wechsle. Oder
"Validierungen" über mich ergehen zu lassen, wenn ich versuche die
Sicherheitslöcher - sprich: Mängel - des Betriebssystems zu beseitigen,
die ich für teures Geld erworben habe.
Das ist kaum zu toppen,
dachte ich bisher - aber da habe ich Microsoft unterschätzt.
Bei
Vista soll der Benutzer nicht mehr nur auf Updates verzichten, falls die
"Valididierung" fehlschlägt. Microsoft behält sich vielmehr vor, das
Betriebssystem bis hin zur Unbenutzbarkeit zu deaktivieren, wenn der
Prozess scheitert (EULA Punkt 5).
...... Mit der Benutzung von
Windows Vista stimmt man zu, dass Microsoft via "Windows Defender" ohne
Nachfrage "potenziell unerwünschte Software" vom Rechner entfernt, auch
wenn dadurch andere Software auf dem Computer nicht mehr funktioniert
oder deren Lizenzbestimmungen verletzt werden. Das kann durchaus auch
Software betreffen, die vom Benutzer gar nicht unerwünscht ist, räumt
Microsoft unumwunden ein. (EULA, Punkt 6)."
Der "Beschützerinstinkt" von Seiten MS Vista bereits so groß ist, dass nach Installation und Anerkennung der EULA "Microsoft regelmäßig meine Festplatte durchstöbert und löscht, was ihm dort mißfällt, respektive Interessantes nach Redmond funkt." (Jörg Luther).
Da kommt Freude auf, bei soviel Für- und Vorsorge, erwünscht oder nicht. Es gibt kein Ja oder Nein mehr; friss oder stirb, lautet die Botschaft in Zeiten von "war against terror". Nun ja, wie beschütze ich mich vor den Beschützern, in Zeiten von Vista, ecard, elektronisch wählen, .............
Alternative: Kann man auf einem Linux-Desktop überhaupt produktiv
arbeitem, werden viele Leser gleich einwerfen. Ja man kann.

Woven Hand, die Band der ehemaligen 16 Horsepower Mitglieder David Eugene Edwards (Vocals, banjo, concertina and guitar) und Pascal Humbert (bass) spielen diesen Herbst nur ein Konzert in Österreich. In der neuen ARGE Salzburg gastieren sie am 16. November. Ordy Garrison (drums) und Peter van Laerhoven (guitar) kompletieren die Live-Band.
"Mosaic" von Woven Hand ist eines meiner Top5 Album des Jahres 2006. Als ich das erste Mal "Mosaic" hörte, war ich über Stunden wie gelähmt, irgendwie "stoned". Eine symphonische Reise zwischen Folk, Country und düsteren Klangbildern wie aus einem Gemälde von Brueghel.

music on Last.fm. Today I made the first step!
"Wipe out" the 1999 mini-cd with 4 smash hits ("Victims", "blind Idiot God", ...) and "Black Light District Boys" can be added to your scobbler. More tracks and albums will follow.
