I added some new, old and interesting field-recordings to my audioblog BIKE-MIKE.

One recording is from Nasca (flightstart with a Cesna), one from a coking plant in Essen (Kokerei Zollverein - see picture) and one from Bisbee, Arizona. A wild busride up the mountains.

Laborg performed at Hipersonica 2007 (23rd march) in Rio de Janeiro.
Laborg is a group of visualists (Alexandre Gonçalves, Charles de Oliveira, Marcelo Zaccariotto, Pablo Zurita, Yuji Added a.k.a. Baia) from Sao Paulo, Brasil who create a very analog lightperformance with fluids filmed with macro-cameras. Maybe in Europe this autumn. Do pass by.

Lebensfrische' mosz is the ultimate fuckhead dvd containing the complete works of the austrian actionist rockband from the very beginning of their existence. the dvd is a compilation of live recordings, albums, images and videos (documentary and computer generated, the latter by vocalist didi bruckmayr and bass player michael strohmann). amongst these powerful pieces a documentary of the live show at london meltdown festival 2000 curated by scott walker can be found as well as the long out of print 'the male comedy', originally released on mego in 1998. Fuckhead are known for their 'aktionist rock' due to the references to the Wiener Aktionismus movement, in particular for the exploration of sensibilities pushed to the limit, and extreme physical performances and sounds. In the band¹s shows and records, furious, muscular rock is combined with other forms of expression: opera with its melodramatic employment of voices and the machinistic creation of electronic sound. The frenetic body becomes a battlefield in a cabaret of cruelty where boundaries are pushed to the limit and masculine fantasies are investigated together with the respective physical, sexual, social and pathological consequences . "Es gibt keine körperliche Folter, nicht wahr? Und doch sind wir in der Hölle. Und niemand darf kommen. Niemand.
Wir werden bis ans Ende allein zusammen sein. Ist es das? ...

Ein Hotelzimmer ohne Fenster, mit künstlichem Licht, in das der Kellner Inès, Estelle und Garcin bringt. Die drei sind nach ihrem Tod in diesem Raum unabänderlicher Abgeschlossenheit, in der Hölle, eingesperrt. Es gibt kein Entrinnen. Über ihr früheres Leben haben sie sich Illusionen aufgebaut. Nun spüren sie voreinander in schonungslosen Verhören die Wahrheit des anderen auf. Garcin, der sich als Held und Pazifist fühlt, ist vor dem Krieg davongelaufen. Inès hat den Mann ihrer Freundin in den Tod getrieben und ist von dieser schließlich selbst in den Tod mitgenommen worden. Estelle hat ihren Mann betrogen, ihr Kind getötet und ist an einer Lungenentzündung gestorben.

Obwohl die drei Figuren anfangs meinen, gut alleine in dem Zimmer zurechtkommen zu können, brauchen sie einander. Sie können sich nur durch den jeweils anderen wahrnehmen. Estelle braucht die Bewunderung von Inès und von Garcin, um sich die eigene Schönheit zu bestätigen. Garcin will als Held gesehen werden, erntet von den beiden Frauen jedoch nur Verachtung. Und Inès, die Lesbierin, versucht, bei Estelle zu landen und wird auch von ihr abgewiesen. Die drei quälen einander, weil sie wiederum vom anderen gequält werden. Sie sind einander ausgeliefert, und es gibt kein Entkommen. Nicht einmal töten können sie einander, denn sie sind bereits tot. So bleibt nur eines: Weitermachen – für immer!

Zur Selbstbestätigung brauchen die drei Figuren im Stück die Qual, die sie den Mitmenschen zufügen: „Die Hölle – das sind die anderen.“ Das ist Sartres verneinende Sicht auf den Existenzverlust, auf die Unfreiheit des Menschen. „Geschlossene Gesellschaft“, 1944 in Paris uraufgeführt, gilt als DAS Schlüsselstück des Existentialismus.

The guys from the Medienkunstlabor Graz take part in the Plymouth-Banjul Challange 2007, first run in 2003 and then known as the Plymouth-Dakar Challenge.
The aim of the challenge is to drive a car, costing no more than € 150 from Great Britain to The Gambia, where the car is auctioned for, or donated to, charity. To save some time and petrol we are able to start from Vienna (Austria) and join the rest of the teams somewhere in France or Spain. The whole trip takes about 7950km to complete.

But I have a passion: field-recordings!

Beside my artistic activities (presented at electronically yours!) I started to publish an audio-blog presenting my little world of field recordings called bike-mike.
At bike-mike you can enjoy sound-recordings I did with binaural microphones from all over the world.

Blogr seamed to be the right tool to work with, because of the podcast abilty and the nice tools for html and photography.

Why bike-mike? Its simple, my second passion is bike-riding! See you at bike-mike!

Wolfgang Dorninger (of Wipeout) composes the soundtrack for Jean-Paul Sartre's theatre-play "Geschlossene Gesellschaft" ("No Exit") at Theatre Phönix in Linz, Austria!
"No Exit" is one of the main pieces of existentialism.

Skateboard music interface

Cobi van Tonder, author of the brilliant Ephemeral Gumboots, has been commissioned a new work for ISEA2006. The project, Skatesonic, uses the motions and sounds of skateboards and explores their inherent ambient rhythm to create music. In a way, each move translates to musical parameters and the rider ends up skating through a landscape of music (which s/he influences over time).

Skatesonic will work in both solo and group situation. The system "listens" to space through movement, which it maps out and translates into music. Each of the four boards will map to a unique sound and structural parameters, so if there are 4 riders they will be able to jam like a band. For example, Skatesonic will allow skaters to buffer through a sound file in Max, meaning that as they rolls over a certain distance it is as if they have a record needle under the board, and every inch of movement progresses the sound. The live microphone input also reveals information about the texture of surface under the board and intensity of movement. From an interview with the artist by Sylvie Parent. Endlich! Linz hat seit dem Hillinger (R.I.P) wieder ein Stadtmagazin!

spotsZ - Kunst.Kultur.Szene.Linz heißt das seit Oktober 2006 monatlich erscheinende Print- & "Download"magazin mit Schwerpunkten Termine Linzkultur (von E zu U), Kulturszene, Kunstdiskurs und Stadtleben.

Meine Lieblingskolumne ist der Fruchtgenuss - Der attraktiviste Leerstand des Monats. Das Bildarchiv dokumentiert die attraktivisten, leerstehenden Gebäude im Raum Linz auf einem Blick.

Die Rubrik Ausschreibungen verschlinge ich mit besonderer Freude, den lin.C Cartoon sowieso und in der aktuellen Ausgabe "Burnout-Biennale" von Harald Schmutzhard, der in seinem Artikel der Frage nachgeht, warum so viele KulturarbeiterInnen so schnell ausbrennen.
Nun ja, lieber Harald, wir sind halt immer noch vom frühen Bürgertum geprägt, das, der Romantik verhaftet, den Künstler (auch den Kulturarbeiter) als nicht endend wollende Kunstproduktionsmaschine sieht, die sowieso nichts anderes tun kann, als Kunst zu produzieren. Deshalb braucht man auch kaum Mittel zuführen, es passiert sowieso. Ich plädiere für einen Aktivstreik. Die Freie Szene kehrt im September 200x Linz den Rücken und organisiert / bespielt zB. ein Festival in Rumänien. Vielleicht schafft die Freie Szene dann über Hubert von Goisern den Re-Import nach Linz.

Anyhow: spotsZ ist eine bereicherung für Linz - download hier!

Gestern wurde im Cdb in Linz die Ausstellung von Hubert Sommerauer eröffnet. Johanna Lacroix (Texte) und Wolfgang Fadi Dorninger (Musik) performierten bei der Ausstellungseröffnung. Dr. Assmann (Eröffnungsrede).
